CareWell Services Southwest awards $1 million in innovation grants

CareWell Services Southwest has granted $1 million to local organizations to support growth, innovation, expansion and improvement of aging and disability services in Barry and Calhoun counties. Individual grants ranged from $5,000 to $250,000.

The Innovations in Action Special Project Fund was a one-time grant opportunity created out of CareWell Services’ Strategic Framework. The Policy Board of Directors created the grant as part of their efforts to meet increasing demand and changing needs of seniors in the surrounding area. The fund was distributed among local organizations to support growth of existing programs and services, as well as help expand the portfolio of services available to the aging network.

“CareWell is pleased to support this special funding opportunity for projects that included capital and equipment purchases; new program models; training and staff development; and other expenditures to support program enhancement or improvement,” said Karla Fales, CareWell CEO.

All funded projects address CareWell Services Southwest’s focus of promoting health, independence, and choice for seniors, adults with disabilities, and caregivers, and support their vision of a community where people are cared for with dignity and respect.

Innovations in Action Grant recipients include: Washington Heights United Methodist Church, The Arc of Calhoun County, Burma Center, Trinity Community Development, Inc., Kingdom Builders, Mill Creek Senior Housing, First Congregational Church, Substance Abuse Prevention Services, Barry County Commission on Aging, Milestone Senior Services, Share Center, Family Support Center of Barry County, and the Albion Health Care Alliance.
