As a Medicare recipient, you have numerous rights, and we’re here to help you navigate those if ever needed. Here are a few more rights you need to know as you navigate Medicare:
- You have a right to appeal if Medicare or your health/drug plan denies a payment, service or prescription. You have the right to file an appeal and have the decision reviewed. Do make sure you obtain pre-approval for all procedures from your Medicare Advantage plans. Your doctor or hospital will help you file that request and they must provide an answer quickly in an emergency.
- You can also file a grievance/complaint directly with your plan or the ombudsman if you are unhappy with the quality of care. We can help you connect with your local ombudsman if ever needed.
Many people are wary of Medicare insurance agents, wondering if the plan they chose is for your best interest or their own highest commission. I assure you that most conduct themselves with the highest integrity. Their reputation is their key to success, but we welcome you to contact your local SHIP office. We can double-check the policy. We are paid via grants, with no commissions and no affiliations with any of the insurance providers, guaranteeing you unbiased results aimed at helping you receive the most comprehensive care at the lowest cost possible.
