Heritage Commons welcomes you to our new center!

People at a table being handed information about memberships and programs

After nearly a year of construction, the freshly built Heritage Commons building in Marshall Plaza has been unveiled and is ready to welcome the community into its halls. The Grand Opening, held on July 21, was a success! Over 150 members of the community came to tour the facility, find out about all the amenities and activities, and enjoy refreshments.

We’ve got plenty of exciting plans lined up for members and non-members alike. We ask that anyone looking to visit Heritage Commons always check-in at the kiosk. This check-in is necessary as it allows us to get participation numbers to secure funding and so that we can check your temperature to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Of course, it pays to be a member at Heritage Commons. Members get exclusive access to classes and events created just for them. They also support Heritage Commons staff in continuing to run engaging programs and special events. Considering becoming a member? Here’s what you should know about membership:

  • You don’t have to live in Marshall. We welcome seniors from anywhere in Calhoun Country and the surrounding area.
  • There is transportation available. You can schedule a ride through the City of Marshall Dial-a-Ride by calling 269-781-3975. Ride on Wednesdays for free thanks to the Marshall Lions Club and Marshall United Methodist Church.
  • You must be at least 60 years of age or older. Whether you’re retired or still working, there’s something for everyone.

Once you become a member, all of our programs and events are open to you! There’s a lot in store for the rest of the summer into fall.

We’re looking forward to our weekly Lunch & Learns, and August is filled with some interesting topics. Our first session on August 3 invites general surgeons from Oaklawn Hospital to come and talk about different surgeries and the methods used to complete them. Learn to avoid scams on August 10, get updates about the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance on August 24, and hear the history of Marshall’s Governor’s Mansion Museum on August 31.

August is also full of fun food-related events and activities! Beginning August 4th, join us every Thursday at noon for a meal provided by Milestone Senior Services. You must register ahead of time to join. If you can’t make it then, you might be able to make it to a meal with the Dining Out Club. Find out about specific dates, times, and locations on our Facebook page. All meals are self-pay. In addition, we’re now offering cooking classes in our state-of-the-art kitchen.

Programming ideas are welcome! We decide on programming as a team so we request that any program or activity idea(s) you have are brought to our attention either in-person or by calling us at (269) 558-6150. We hope to see you with a membership soon!
