New faces and new activities available at Heritage Commons Senior Center

As we head into fall, the weather is changing and so are some things around Heritage Commons. Last month, Jen Rice transitioned into the role of Senior Center Program Coordinator at Heritage Commons.

Rice moved to Marshall in 2015 and is very active in our community. Rice serves on the Marshall City Council representing Ward 4, and is the secretary for the Marshall Lions Club, Marshall United Way, and the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame (which is based here in Marshall).

Before changing career paths in 2018, Rice was a chef for twenty years. She grew up working for her parents at their restaurant in Kalamazoo, and after they retired, she joined the original opening team for FireKeepers Casino, later helping to open their hotel and event center (she even cooked for and met Aretha Franklin!). After her time at the casino, Rice was the Executive Chef at Duck Lake Country Club for a season. She had also been employed as the General Manager of the Calhoun County Fairgrounds and, most recently, the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator for CareWell Services.

Rice says she looks forward to growing the senior center alongside all of the great people at Heritage Commons! October will be a busy month at Heritage Commons including cooking, crafting, and congregate meals available to adults 60 and over.
