
Area Agencies on Aging exist all across the country to advocate for the needs of seniors and to provide services and support to help older adults maintain their health, independence, and choice. CareWell Services Southwest is the Area Agency on Aging for Region 3B, which includes Barry and Calhoun counties. A wide range of services are available through CareWell Services for seniors, adults with disabilities, and caregivers.
Information & Assistance Line has specially trained and certified resource specialists available from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, to answer questions and provide information on local services for older adults, persons with disabilities, and family caregivers.
Health Navigation & Care Transition Coordination provides assessments and intervention, proactive discharge planning, coaching and discharge supports for ages 60 and over.
Care Management offers support for those who need help at home.
HearWell & SeeWell Services provides financial support for hearing and vision exams, hearing aids, and eyeglasses for ages 60 and over in Calhoun County.
BeWell Workshops help participants take control of their health and age in place. Workshops topics include: medication management, nutrition, fall prevention, chronic disease, pain management, exercise, healthy choices, and more!
Senior Centers provide community hubs for continued health, engagement, and enrichment for seniors.
Michigan Medicare Assistance Program provides unbiased benefits counseling without charge or financial incentive. Counseling is available at various partner sites throughout Barry and Calhoun counties. Call (800) 803-7174 to speak to a benefits counselor.
MI Choice Waiver Program provides services and supports to people in their home. MI Choice serves adults aged 18 and older who need services like those provided in a nursing home. Available in Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties.
Caregiver Support & Dementia Education both offer individualized care coaching and support to caregivers and those dealing with dementia.
Community Programming & Outreach allows for educating and connecting individuals to services that meet their needs. Services also include Elder Abuse Prevention & Intervention and ShelterWell housing assistance.
LivingWell Workshops provide information to help create a smooth transition into aging. Workshop topics include: grief recovery and support, scam and fraud prevention, online interactive programs, and more!
