Have you seen this strange word? It sounds like work but looks like something much more fun and creative. WERQ is cardio dance fitness with choreography set to charting pop and hip hop tunes. It’s exciting, inviting, and good for you! Classes are led by certified WERQ instructors who use only approved routines provided by WERQ fitness. This program fidelity guarantees great moves and a quality workout.
WERQ has a private website for instructors where they can find thousands of choreography videos performed by master trainers. New content is added regularly to help instructors keep their classes fresh. I keep some of the same songs throughout a session so participants can really get the hang of them, while mixing in new dances to keep it interesting. The moves can be modified for any fitness level and the intensity is determined by the individual.
WERQ uses a non-verbal cueing style to alert the group of upcoming moves. A point, a gesture, or a “HUP” communicates directions effectively and allows the music to be the main attraction. WERQ-aholics can immerse themselves and follow along, without having to hear spoken instructions. Participants often comment about how much they love the upbeat music!
Currently, I teach WERQ classes at Heritage Commons Senior Enrichment Center and Kool Family Community Center on an alternate basis. Each class is 6 weeks long. Each session is about 30-35 minutes of non-stop motion. For those who long to dance but are unable to stand, doing the moves from a chair is totally acceptable. WERQ is a judgment-free zone where everyone can enjoy the freedom of movement, the good vibes, and the benefits of physical activity.
