Volunteer with Michigan’s Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP/SHIP)

Retirement is often a welcome end to the workaday life. It can provide a sense of freedom, giving us opportunities to expand our horizons and pursue new interests, at a pace that suits our wishes. Volunteerism is a great way to continue contributing to society, on our own terms. It keeps us socially connected and has measurable health benefits, by supporting our cognitive skills and keeping us active.

What does that have to do with Medicare? The Michigan Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP) is almost wholly staffed by volunteers. These volunteers help others understand their Medicare benefits and teach them how Medigap, Medicare Advantage and Prescription plans.

Where’s the reward? It’s amazing when a participant arrives, often anxious or confused, unsure about how it all works or if they’re on the best plans for their needs, then exit grateful, with confidence, and more often than not, lower healthcare costs.

Are you curious? Are you friendly, love to interact with people, and good at math? That’s all you need! All training is provided and you get to choose how much or little you’d like to be available. MMAP has multiple locations across every county.

MMAP is actively looking for volunteers, so we can help more Medicare beneficiaries than ever. Call (800) 803-7174 today!

NOTE: MMAP will soon adopt the national name for the program, which is SHIP (State Health Insurance Program), the name you see if you go to Medicare.gov. It’s the same program, same training, same great care.

MMAP is a free Medicare counseling service provided to you via local, state and federal grants. MMAP is not affiliated with, nor does it receive compensation from any insurance companies.
