Eating well is important as we age, and the Senior Project Fresh program is here to help older adults access healthy, local food. This program offers participants free nutrition education and $25 in benefits to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey from local farmers’ markets and roadside stands.
To be eligible, you must be aged 60 or older with a household income of $28,952.50 or less for an individual or $39,127.50 or less for a couple. Also, residents aged 55 or older who belong to a Michigan federally recognized tribe or urban tribal group are eligible.
The program runs from May 1 to October 31 each year, and benefits must be used in the county where the applicant lives. Starting in 2025, the program is moving to an electronic system. Online applications are available at michigan.gov starting June 1. Keep an eye on their website for how to register and find local Community Partners who can assist with the online process.
