Forks Senior Center collects school supplies for Harrington Elementary

Each year in the fall Forks Senior Center collaborates with the Albion NAACP to collect school supplies for a back-to-school event and backpack giveaway for the students at Harrington Elementary. Supplies are collected by the Senior Center and then picked up and sorted into each backpack. At this year’s back-to-school event on August 22, students will get the option to pick out their own backpack already filled with school supplies.

The Center is still collecting supplies including pencils, notebook paper, glue, erasers, crayons, folders, spiral notebooks, hand sanitizer and boxes of tissues. Anyone wishing to donate can drop supplies off at Forks Senior Center until Thursday, August 18. The Senior Center is located at 101 N. Albion Street in Albion.

Harrington Elementary is operated by Marshall Public Schools and serves predominantly Albion area students. Many students participate in the school lunch program and parents struggle to provide school supplies needed. These donations make such a difference in a student’s confidence and ability to succeed. Any extra supplies are given to the school for future use.

Forks Senior Center is a membership organization. Membership is $75 per year. Persons receiving less than $25,000 per year may be eligible for a reduced membership. Forks Senior Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving older adults ages 60 and up in the greater Albion area since 2005. The Forks Senior Center exists to improve and maintain the physical, mental, and social well-being of the area’s senior citizens. Please come join us, and check out the center, and have fun with friends. For more information, call us at (517) 629-3842.
