It’s not too late to renew your purpose

By Jen Rice, Manager, Heritage Commons Senior Enrichment Center

The dawn of a new year brings with it the opportunity for fresh beginnings and the setting of resolutions. While the tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions is often associated with the younger generations, senior citizens are increasingly joining in, embracing the idea of starting anew, setting goals, and working towards them. Here’s why this trend is not only relevant, but also beneficial for seniors (even after New Year’s Day).

Renewed Sense of Purpose: One of the most significant advantages of setting New Year’s resolutions for senior citizens is the renewed sense of purpose it brings. As individuals enter their golden years, they may find themselves looking for ways to stay engaged, active, and connected. Setting resolutions provides a clear direction and goal-oriented focus, igniting a fresh spark of purpose in their lives.

Physical and Mental Well-being: Senior citizens who set resolutions often include health-related goals. Whether it’s committing to regular exercise, adopting a healthier diet, or prioritizing mental well-being through mindfulness and relaxation techniques, these resolutions contribute to improved overall health. A healthy body and mind are essential for a vibrant and fulfilling senior life.

Continued Learning and Growth: Learning knows no age limits. Seniors often set resolutions that involve pursuing new hobbies, skills, or educational goals. This commitment to personal growth keeps their minds active and engaged, ensuring a continuous learning journey.

Heritage Commons Senior Enrichment Center offers you many opportunities to renew your commitment to all three of these areas! We have clubs and outings that allow for socializing and connection, classes to improve and maintain health, and lunch and learns to keep your mind active and growing.
