Get support going after your fitness and activity goals

by Colleen Acker, CareWell BeWell Activities Coordinator

Many people have a desire to become physically active but don’t know where to start. Some people get stuck in an exercise “rut” over the long Michigan winter and lose motivation. Others may not want to adhere to a stringent routine or drive to classes. In general, it can be difficult to start on the road to wellness when regular activity hasn’t been part of your life.

The Active Choices program is a telephone-based support program to encourage regular physical activity. Any fitness level will benefit from the unique delivery, personalization, and adaptability this program provides. The advisor will assist you in choosing activities that fit your lifestyle, help you attain your goals, and keep you accountable. With regular communication, you will have support to overcome barriers and celebrate success. Best of all, the six-month program is being offered free of charge!

The program was developed by behavioral scientists at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, Stanford University School of Medicine, with input from experts in medicine, public health, exercise science, and psychology. It is an evidence-based program, meaning that when the program is followed as prescribed, it is proven to benefit the participants.

CareWell Services of Southwest Michigan provides this program to all seniors and caregivers of older adults in Barry and Calhoun Counties. New participants can enroll from January to March of 2024.
