Scam Alert: Avoid Facebook Quizzes to Keep Your Information Safe

By Liz Lawson Young, Marketing Specialist

Technology has certainly made it easier to stay connected with friends and family, especially during the pandemic and other personal health crises that can lead to isolation. While social media, video calls, and other social tech tools can be helpful and fun, it’s important to use them safely to protect yourself and your information from getting into the wrong hands.

If you’re on Facebook, you’ve probably seen different types of quizzes come across your feed from friends and family members. These quizzes may seem fun, but participating in these quizzes may be more concerning than you think.

According to the Better Business Bureau, quizzes can be designed to ask questions that are often used for security purposes for insurance, banking, or credit card accounts. When you share your information, hackers can gather your answers and use them to access your personal and financial information. Quizzes may also lead you outside sites or encourage you to download files that contain viruses.

To protect your personal and financial information, avoid quizzes on social media or links that lead to sites that force you to log in or ask for additional information. You can report or block any suspicious links or quizzes that come across your feed.

Keep connecting with your loved ones in any way you can, including using technology! Just be sure to know and use the best practices for keeping your information safe.
