Navigating the Maze of Caregiving

Becoming a caregiver for a loved one is a role most feel unequipped to fill. Whether it’s for a parent, sibling, spouse, or other friend or family member, becoming a caregiver changes the relationship dynamic and can leave you feeling confused, frustrated, overwhelmed and exhausted.

Navigating this journey can feel like you are lost in a maze. Depending on the needs of your loved one, stepping into the role of caregiver may require certain skills or tools that you do not currently have. This can certainly be overwhelming, but we are here to help you develop the necessary skills, tools and techniques to provide quality and loving care. We also want to make sure that you are caring for yourself, so that you can care for your loved one. This way, you can feel better equipped to get through the maze of feelings, information, and services.

CareWell Services Southwest offers several programs for caregivers as you walk through this maze. Creating Confident Caregivers is six-week program for family members caring for a loved one with dementia at home. It provides participants with information, skills, and attitudes to manage stress and increase effective caregiving skills. Savvy Caregivers is a six-week program for those providing care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease. This free program is taught in the comfort of your own home. Our specialist will come one hour per week and discuss ways to manage day-to-day life with your loved one. We also offer Aging Mastery for Caregivers, which is a 10-week class that covers assessing your own needs, daily practices, and gives practical tips on how to plan, connect and manage day-to-day activities. Check out our event calendar for more information on upcoming sessions.
